Surface Preparation for Exterior Colour Paint

Surface preparation is a crucial first step before painting the exterior of your home. A little extra time spent prepping your surfaces can ensure a smoother finish and long-lasting colour.

The first step in surface preparation is cleaning. Dirt, dust, and grime can prevent paint from properly adhering, so give your exterior walls a good wash, ideally with a pressure washer, to eliminate any residue. 

Next, inspect the surface for cracks, peeling, or flaking paint. Scrape off any loose paint and use sandpaper to smooth out rough patches. It will help the new paint layer stick better.

After sanding, check for any damage to the walls. Fill in small cracks with an exterior-grade filler and let it dry completely. Priming is also essential, especially when working bare wood or a heavily stained surface. How to Apply Graphenstone Exterior Paint?

For subsequent coats, you can dilute less (about 5-10%) or use it directly if the surface is well-primed.

When you’re ready to paint, apply with a roller or brush, using even strokes. You should start from the top of the wall and work down to avoid drips or uneven layers. 

Allow each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next; drying time varies with temperature and humidity, usually around 2-4 hours. Two coats are generally recommended for the best durability. These steps will give you a beautiful, eco-friendly, and smooth finish.
