Vegan paint

You’ll be shocked to learn that the majority of paint isn’t vegan friendly. Mostly this isn’t due the use of animal products, but rather animal testing. The likelihood is the paints you currently use on the inside of your home have been tested on animals. If your paints have been manufactured in and imported from the Far East, such has China, it is unlawful for paints not to be tested on animals. Imagine that; animal cruelty being compulsory for the production of products you use all over your house.

This isn’t to say animal products aren’t also rife within the paint industry, or any industry for that matter. While not used as ingredients, the many manufacturing process often uses animal-based tools unbeknownst to the products’ consumers. For example, it isn’t widely known that your average pint of beer or glass of wine is strained through animal proteins such as ground fish bones in order to extract impurities and make the product as clear as possible. Similarly, conventional emulsion paints often make use of ox gall and animal derivatives in the manufacturing process.

Graphenstone is bucking this trend. Our ‘Vegan / Cruelty-Free Statement 03/05/2019’ states “As a company Graphenstone do not knowingly use materials that have been tested on animals.” “Graphenstone is 100% ecological, and complies with the world’s most stringent quality standards, holding some of the highest international certifications, including both BREEAM and LEED certifications, to deliver the most environmentally aware paint available anywhere in the world to date. Cradle to Cradle do not advocate or promote animal testing. As far as Graphenstone are aware, they do not use any products in the paints that has been tested on animals.

Graphenstone products are vegan and cruelty-free across the board. If you are searching for those elusive vegan wall paints, vegan furniture paints, vegan bathroom paints, vegan kitchen paints, and cruelty free emulsion paints generally, then Graphenstone paints is the brand for you. Our paints are 100% natural, and free of casein or any other animal products, ensuring they are comprehensively vegan-friendly. If you’re living in a vegan home and it’s important to you your home is based wholly on cruelty-free products, then look no further than Graphenstone for paints. Head to our main website graphenstone.co.uk to download Technical Data Sheets for all of our products, which detail a full ingredients list, application instructions and related data.

If you are one of those who while not intending to pursue the vegan lifestyle, are responsible enough to recognise our need to keep sustainability at the core of our daily choices, you may choose to make wiser choices to minimise your environmental footprint. With the release of Graphenstone vegan paints, there is simply no need to buy conventional paint. Our natural, graphene-infused range has had a revolutionary effect on the paint industry. Graphenstone paints are tough, durable and flexible with a much higher resistance to cracking and peeling than ordinary paint, with the gold standard of vegan credentials. None of Graphenstone vegan paints contain any chemical wetting agent, or any animal derivative such as from the female lac, (shellac) beetle or ox gal. Our paints contain no animal bone or bone derivatives, nor have they been tested on animals in any way. Here at Graphenstone we fundamentally do not agree with animal tests and all of our paints are cruelty-free.

Graphenstone vegan paint colours

Since vegan paint brands are so few and far between, they offer a very poor range of colours in almost all cases. Most of our competitors offer less than 100 shades, frequently a measly 72. This presents a huge problem for vegan paint customers, as they simply aren’t offered the colour palette (and therefore freedom) to create the colour scheme they dreamt for their home. This can really throw a spanner in the works for the vegan home decorator, as now not only are the majority of paint brands unviable, but also the majority of colours for the brands they can use.

Here at Graphenstone we’ve refused to follow this trend. We are the only vegan paint brand to offer such a wide colour palette at 980 interior shades and 322 exterior shades, following the NCS (Natural Colour System). We primarily offer our core range of 72 house colours which will be delivered in 2-3 days. Alternatively, get in touch with us directly to order from the wider NCS 980 or request a bespoke colour, with delivery in 1-2 weeks. Our white vegan paints, along with our vegan primers, are delivered by Next Day delivery.

Surface preparation for Graphenstone vegan paint

Graphenstone offers an comprehensive range of high-quality primers, allowing our exterior paints to be applied on all classic substrates in construction, including mortar, brick, concrete and old paints, and similarly our interior paints to work on all classic interior substrates, including plaster, gypsum, old paints, prefabricated plates, unpainted wallpaper, bare brick etc. The substrate itself must be dry, firm, well-adhered and free from any impurities that may hinder the product from setting fully. If the substrate presents algae, mould, fungi or other impurities, it is recommended to do a thorough cleaning, eliminating in its entirety and with specific products for this purpose.

If the substrate has salt deposits, brush and apply Neutralysal Premium. If the substrate contains a high moisture level, apply StopWater Premium diluted 1:1 with water and leave to dry for 24 hours.

If the substrate presents surface cracks, apply Füllmasse Premium for 1-3mm cracks, or Naturglue Premium for cracks 3-10mm. If the substrate presents deterioration of mortar, first remove areas that do not adhere by scraping or pricking and clean up by brushing or plenty of water. Apply Ecoputty Premium for damage of less than 3mm depth, for 3-8mm apply Naturglue Premium with a mesh, and for 8-20mm apply MortarBase Premium and finish with MortarFine Premium.

Application of Graphenstone vegan paint

Please note our bathroom paints come undiluted. This ensures our pot weights remain low and thus our shipping footprint is as environmentally friendly as possible. Before use, be sure to dilute our paints with 10-15% water according to the labelled instructions, and stir (excluding our 100ml sample pots). Our paints may be rolled, brushed or sprayed according to requirements.

In bathrooms, we would recommend the use of our GrafClean product.
